Russia has increased poultry production by 5.4%, pork production by 5.7% and beef production by 1.1% between January and May 2017 compared to the same period last year, according to recent estimates from the Russian State Statistical Service (Rostat).
Russia’s beef industry is going through the perfect storm, as it faces simultaneous reductions in production, imports and consumption, as well as unresolved problems concerning the low profitability of cattle-breeding businesses.
European Union (EU) beef production will be boosted next year (2014-2015) according to the European Commission’s annual market outlook report covering the next decade, published on Friday (5 December).
The Russian government is due to embark on a large-scale development in beef production, which will enable the country to increase its beef export potential within the next 10 years.
